Activities/Facilities
For generations, Glengarriff has appealed to visitors. The following compliment is attributed to Thackeray: "Within five miles around the pretty inn of Glengarriff there is a country of the magnificence of which no pen can give an idea". He was not exaggerating. Glengarriff is a beautiful sea-side village, whose climate gets the full benefit of the Gulf Stream as seals bask on the rocks in the summer sunshine
It is a place to enjoy in any season. In winter, the village is quiet and peaceful; indoor pleasures are warm and cosy; a drink by a fireside is enjoyably intimate; outdoor pleasures are invigorating; a walk through the hills or by the sea sets the body tingling. In summer, the village is full of the bustle and excitement of lots of visitors; indoor pleasures are bright with new acquaintances and chat about the excursions and events of the day; outdoor pleasures are unhurried, lingering into twilight as darkness seeps slowly into the glens and steals across the hills.
There is a nine hole golf course on the road to Bantry with views over the harbour.
You can fish in any of the lakes or rivers around Glengarriff but you will need a permit.
